Dr. McCoy spent most of his childhood in Orem and has settled down here, taking full advantage of the outdoor experiences available around Provo. From hiking, to exploring national and state parks, to snowshoeing, to skiing, he’s always ready to enjoy the great outdoors. He also enjoys visiting national monuments and historical sites.
The most rewarding part of pediatrics for Dr. McCoy is helping parents take good care of their kids. He recognizes that parents want to do their best and do the right thing, and it’s often up to the pediatrician to provide the resources for them to do just that. Thinking he was going to pursue Anesthesiology when he was starting out as a physician, Dr. McCoy was surprised to find out how much he enjoyed pediatrics on his last rotation. After that, he knew he had to switch his residency and he’s never looked back.
Dr. McCoy loves working with 4-6-month-olds because they’re so happy and 3-4-year-olds because they’re so much fun to work with and get to know. He’s the father of one boy and he and his wife are thinking about expanding the family, but he jokes that it “depends on how easy or hard he takes it on us.”
Dr. McCoy speaks fluent English and somewhat fluent Japanese.
Dr. McCoy’s experience as a parent has given him more empathy while practicing. Above all, he wants parents to know it’s a tough job, and that they need to cut themselves some slack sometimes.
